Ipera was founded in Silicon Valley where the company maintains its headquarters and core engineering team that focuses on key technology development. It also runs an R&D and application support facility in Shanghai.

The Ipera team consists of experienced executives and technology veterans with proven track records from the world's leading video-related technology companies.

Ian Xie, Founder and CEO

Ian founded Ipera in 2005 to provide technology and products that improve visual experience for business and consumers. He has 18 years of experience in R&D, marketing and business development, including 10 years in an executive officer capacity. Ian was founding CEO of MedioStream that developed the industry's first real-time software MPEG-2 encoder in 1999 and licensed the technologies to Sony and others. Prior to that, he held key engineering and managerial positions with industry leaders such as AMD, Philips, and Cyrix and played a key role in architecture and algorithm design of two successful media-focused CPUs and other IC products. Ian invented/co-invented numerous US patents and received an MSEE from the University of Texas at Austin.

Greg Ellis, Vice President of Business Development

Greg drives Ipera's IP licensing and partnership activities. He is a senior sales and business development manager with more than 20 years of experience in wireless, broadband, telecom, and consumer electronics markets, including 14 years of executive-level experience driving market share, revenues, and profit growth for several different companies. His background includes executive stints at mobile content provider Intvo, digital home networking supplier Awind, wireless data vendor Tellus Technology, and heading a business unit at Macrovision. Greg received both MSEE and BSEE degrees from the University of Kansas.

Tony Francesca, Senior Vice President of Consumer Products

With 30 years of experience, Tony has broad and deep domain knowledge in software, semiconductors, IP licensing, and systems to Consumer Electronics, service operators, and enterprise. He held executive positions at Fortune 500 companies as well as CEO and COO at private equity start-ups. As VP&GM at Quantum, he created a new BU which enabled the DVR and MP3 player markets with innovative AV storage solutions and was a strategic partner to TiVo. As VP of Marketing at Quantum, he managed products generating $3.5B. As VP of the OEM BU with P&L responsibility at USRobotics (3Com merger), he turned it around growing to $250M. Tony earned a BSEE from McGill University, an MBA from the University of South Florida, and has 2 issued patents.

Moon K. Mu, General Manager, China

Moon manages Ipera's China operation and heads the company's worldwide customer support. He came to Ipera from Creative/3DLab, where he headed its R&D activities in China and also took charge of much of its AE activities worldwide. He previously was with OmniVision, where he was heavily involved in definition, design, and pre-sale customer support for USB web camera products. Prior to that, Moon managed the portable media player design program at Arcsoft. He holds BSEE and MSEE degrees from Tsinghua University, and an MEEE from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and is an inventor with several US and China patents.
