Ipera Pixel Magic™ CE
Significantly Improves
Video
Quality for Portable Devices
Breakthrough in Video Enhancement Technology Combines Amazing Pixel
Quality,
Exceptionally Low Power Requirements and Easy Integration
Barcelona, Spain (February 11, 2008)
– Ipera Technology, Inc., a pioneer in the video enhancement arena,
announced today that it will demonstrate Pixel Magic™ CE on a variety of
video-enabled mobile devices at Booth #7A62 during the GSMA Mobile World
Congress in Barcelona, February 11-15. Hailed as a
breakthrough in video enhancement
technology,
Ipera's
patent-pending
PixelMagic
CE enables
OEMs and IC companies
to dramatically improve the video quality of any portable device while
keeping power
requirements remarkably low.
Large-screen and HD TVs have been a driving force in making consumers
dissatisfied with the quality of the images they see on their portable
devices. In the comScore Mobile TV study carried out in 2007,
respondents cited picture quality as a primary concern, second only to
service costs. Bandwidth is at a premium with video-enabled cellphones,
even with 3G channels. Processing also tends to be more limited with
these devices because they are designed to trade-off performance for low
power consumption.
Pixel Magic CE innovative algorithms reduce or totally eliminate
distortions generated by various types of codec, as well as noise and
imperfections caused by sensors and LCD displays. In particular, Pixel
Magic
enhances contrast and brightness, skin tone and color, edge and detail.
It also provides video signal boosting tailored specifically for LCD
displays. Combined, these capabilities make
Ipera’s unique
technology ideal for video-enabled mobile phones, portable media players
(PMPs), pocket PCs and digital cameras.
Optimized
for ARM processors, DaVinci/OMAP and other embedded CPUs running as
efficiently as 60MHz, the PixelMagic CE family of solutions can be
quickly designed into
a portable device without costly device reengineering. In System-on-a-Chip
(SoC)
applications, the company's solutions typically consume less than 100mW
of power and are implemented with 150K gates.
In addition to delivering exceptionally realistic per-pixel video
quality at extremely low power consumption for virtually any video codec
and any video application, Pixel Magic CE can also be easily adapted to
support future formats. As a result, mobile device OEMs and IC vendors
who adopt Pixel Magic CE technology will find they can continue to
improve the video quality of their mobile video content, entertainment
and communications devices without increasing their cost when new
technologies emerge.
Ipera
Pixel Magic
CE is compatible with all video codec formats, including H.264, VC1,
DivX®, MPEG-1/2/4, H.263, WMV, FLV, raw video and any future format.
All CPU/DSP architectures
are supported as well as all current and future VLSI manufacturing
processes.
By enabling higher-quality video and images, Ipera Technology has
established a new benchmark in video enhancement technology that spans
the portable device markets. Key applications will include:
•
Online Video
– Video is becoming as much a part of our online experience as music and
photos. In-Stat analysts predict that the market for online content
services worldwide is expected to expand from nearly 33 million
households in 2007 to more than 110 million households by 2010.
In the US, the online
video market is already a $538 million market; and Informa Telecoms &
Media estimates that in 2012, online video services will earn $6.3
billion worldwide, with 65 percent of that generated in North America.
•
Video Cell Phone Market
- As DVB-H and T-DMB mature for cell phone TV, video is becoming an
increasingly important added function for the cell phone. ABI Research
forecasts that by 2011, more than half a billion customers will
subscribe to video services on their mobile phones.
•
Portable Media Player (PMP) Market
- The HDD-based MP3 player will rapidly expand from an audio PMP to
video PMP which playbacks audio, video and images. In-Stat predicts
that sales of video-enabled units will increase from 10.2 million in
2007 to 21.6 million in 2008. With iPod® video and many video clips
available for download from the Internet, video PMP will quickly grow
into a mainstream portable entertainment device
Availability
Requiring only about 100kbytes of storage, Pixel Magic can run under
Linux, Windows CE, Windows XP/Vista. Ipera licenses its core technology
as PC software, as embedded software for
portable consumer devices powered by DSP or microprocessors, and as
system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions for IC
companies.
